What does it mean for you?

Well, in a nutshell, it means that:

  • If you are a developer / programmer, you can now incorporate personalisation services to the sites / programmes you develop for your customers, without paying for the software, since it is offered for free! So you can boost your business.
  • If are the owner of a web site, a smartphone application or an intranet, you can now offer to your users personalized services and content (news, suggestions, images...) they really want, at a cost which is a fragment of what you would pay up to now, since the software is offered for free! About PServer

What is PServer? What does it do?

Personalisation? Why should I care?

You have visited Amazon/eBay viewing a book that interests you. Automatically, you get suggestions regarding similar books or books written by the same writer. You are reading the news or searching for an exotic destination and you get suggestions for relevant news/ destinations. You create a profile in a social network and relevant interests/advertisements appear. You create your profile on an application in your mobile phone and you get information you really need.

We have entered the era of personalization; internet sites and mobile apps need to offer a personal experience. Thus:

  • Developers who can offer such services at reduced costs get a competitive edge and can boost their business.
  • Sites / Applications that offer personalisation services
    1. offer relevant content and great user experience
    2. increase engagement
    3. get behavioural data to analyze and use

Take a look at the video to see how this works:

Visit the Demo Site to see how PServer creates personal recommendations for you:

How does PServer make recommendations?

It uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence to learn what the user wants. It does so by collecting and processing information such as:

  • how you navigate through a site/ use an application (personal recommendations)
  • how you interact with others with common interests with you (social recommendations)
  • your demographic profile (recommendations based on your demographic profile)

Thus, if you are a user, you get what you need. If you are a provider, you give what is needed.

  • Are you a developer? Download PServer
  • Do you have a site / intranet/ smartphone application? Share this with your developer or contact us.

The Vision

Our joint effort with NCSR "Democritos" is inspired by a vision

Help all organizations, regardless of their size and cost restraints they face, have a better understanding of people's needs, easily develop services related to these needs and continually improve them, boosting economy and employment, and better serving their clients and citizens.

The problem it addresses: Why PServer is breaking barriers for market entrance.

OK, personalisation is a "must have" for most sites, intranets, smartphone applications.

But what happens in the case that we wish to provide the visitors of our site or the users of our mobile application with such a personalized experience? Well, then we have to spend lots of money to companies offering such software and services.

The question is: how can a small new company compete with corporate giants without offering the so called personalization services? How can a NGO raise money to act respectively? With what ways will a public service be able to offer such a service to the citizens given the limited financial resources?
PServer is offered to all for free, changing all that.

Who is it for?

PServer can be used for practically every software that could benefit from personalized services, for example:

  • News sites and portals (see our demo site)
  • Travel and tourist sites
  • Retail sites
  • Social networking sites
  • TV and radio stations
  • Recreational sites
  • Deals sites
  • Government agencies
  • Not-for-Profit organisations

Every organisation can now provide relevant content and engaging experiences, while reducing overall costs.

F.A.Q.

What is PServer? What does it do?

PServer is an open source application developed by NCSR "Demokritos", which offers the possibility of personalization of other applications. What does it mean for you? Well, that if you have a site, a smartphone application or an intranet, you will now have the chance to offer your users personalized content and services!

What is personalisation? Why should I care?

Personalization technology enables the dynamic insertion, customization or suggestion of content in any format that is relevant to the individual user, based on the user’s implicit behaviour and preferences, and explicitly given details. (Wikipedia)

Thus, it is the technology that helps:

• providers (e.g. site owners) offer content and services that is relevant to their customers (and obtain a competitive advantage!).
• users get content (news, suggestions, images...) that is relevant to them.
So, providers can offer real added value to your customers. If you don’t care, your competition will.

Who is it for?

It is a tool for:

a) programmers / developers: you can now offer new added value services at a fraction of the cost you could up to now (since the software is free). You boost your business and get a competitive advantage.
You are the ones who use it.
b) service providers (site owners / application providers): you will increase client/visitor engagement and get valuable insight of your customer base.

Your ask your programmers to use it, you get the results you want.

Why should I use PServer for my site / application?

For four main reasons:

1. Because it will increase visitor/user engagement:

• You will offer to your site visitors / clients a personalised experience: Your visitors will get content that is relevant to them, that they want, that makes them come back.
• The user just enjoys the better service and the better content, with no extra effort: PServer learns what the user wants and offers it.

2. Because you get infinite possibilities to know your clients' behaviour. Yet, you can exploit them, according to your needs and time.
• You can get information on individual behavioural patterns, on groups of people with same interests, on demographic characteristics... Dig into it as much as you want.
• You can segment your market easily, provide new offers, enrich your content, target your promotions, according to your needs and time. Just work with your programmer, and lots of things are possible.
• PServer was developed by top artificial intelligence scientists from NCSR "Demokritos". It incorporates state-of-the art technology to bring better results.

3. Because you offer better, personalised services and become more efficient.

• You get competitive advantages if you are a for-profit organisation.
• You become more efficient if you are a government or not-for-profit organisation.

4. Because you can do it at a fraction of the cost you would pay up to now.

• PServer is offered and will always be offered for free. Thus, you do not pay for using the software. You only pay your programmer, as usual.
• You can offer personalisation services without having to spend time for it.

I am a programmer / CMS infrastructure provider. Why should I use PServer?

For two main reasons:

1. Because it is better:

a. it is completely free and will always be
b. you get better results, since it uses state of the art Artificial Intelligence technology, developed by top scientists in NCSR "Demokritos"
c. it is opensource and you can evolve and customise it to suit your needs
d. you will get support from the community

2. Because you can offer to your clients valuable tools and services for free:

a. The site you build becomes a feedback tool, even if the user does not send information; his/her behaviour on a site is enough.
b. You get new personalised information (content, links, news...) that you can use on the site.
c. You have new administration tools.
d. You get cost reductions and offer better services.
e. You offer to your customers cost reductions and the ability to offer better services.

Do I have to pay for it?

No. Not a cent. It is offered to all, for free.
Plus, it is opensource, so that you can evolve it according to your needs.
Plus, you get community support for free.

Can it be used for smartphone applications? For sites? For intranets?

Of course! It can be used for any information system. Smartphone apps, internet sites, company intranets... you name it, you use it!

What do I have to do to use PServer?

• If you are a developer, click here to get it.
• If you are a service provider (web site owner/ provider of the application...), you just have to ask your programmer to install PServer to your server and set it up. Click here.
• If you are a user (site visitor / user of an application), well, nothing: You just do your job (navigate through the site / use the application...) and in this way you teach PServer what you want. You will very soon enjoy personal, more relevant service and content.

How does the service provider cope with the issue of personal data collection and use?
You have to form a clear Privacy Policy, communicate it to your users and get their approval.
Be sure to take national and international law into consideration.

What do I need to have to install and use PServer?

Installing it to your server is a piece of cake. You just follow step-by-step instructions.
Then you have to make your site communicate with your server. Well, this is a little tricky, and you need to ask your provider to realise this, because it needs some programming skills.

Will it slow down my site/application? Does it significantly increase data transfer?

PServer can function efficiently without altering the speed of the system that uses it, as it can function offline to calculate what each user likes.
Thus, PServer can be programmed to communicate with the web server at specific time points, in order to utilise resources efficiently.

How does PServer do it?

It uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence to learn what the user wants. It does so by collecting and processing information such as:

- how you navigate through a site/ use an application
- how you interact with others with common interests with you
- your demographic profile

Thus, if you are a user, you get what you need.
If you are a provider, you give what is needed.

Is it a full-featured version or with limited functionality? Will it be free only for a short test period, or free for ever?

It is released with full functionality, for free, for ever.
What is more, we support it, building a community that will develop add-ons and evolve it.

Good job! I want to be part of this project, and help it evolve.
Thank you! Check here your options, and do something that excites you.
