Teaching Astronomy using Digital Tools

The participants of the 26th SciFY Academy: "Teaching Astronomy using Digital Tools" had the chance to take part in a unique experience on Thursday 29th of November at INNOVATHENS. Researchers, teachers and students of science, especially Astrophysics, as well as people interested in Astronomy attended this interactive event organized by SciFY - Science For You along with SciCo - Science Communication.

The aim of the seminar was how can we teach astronomy in the digital age and bring students back to the science that allows them to dream? So we had the opportunity to provide concrete ideas, practical ways and digital tools to the creative educators of the country to help disseminate interest in Astronomy.

SciFY, in particular, Vasilis Giannakopoulos presented us with educational games that SciFY created: "The Moondiver Xperience" the new free astronomy educational game for tablets and smartphones where participants had the chance to try live at the seminar . Then Mr. Vasilis Giannakopoulos presented two more Astronomy games through the Memor-i Studio platform, where everyone can easily create their own educational game.

SciCo then brought the participants into contact with both experiential and digital teaching methods relating to the exploration of space. They presented educational platforms where they were informed about games, digital scenarios of exploratory learning and citizen science projects for introducing students to the fascinating world of astronomy researchers. Participants also took part in experiential activities, using augmented reality applications where they saw our solar system three-dimensionally and explored the red planet.

You can see the speakers presentations as well as the video of the event here (in Greek).

We warmly thank INNOVATHENS and SciCo as well as all of you where you once again contributed to realizing our vision of the free dissemination of knowledge!
